South Africa expects ICJ judgment on Gaza on Friday

WORLD, Jan. 25 (YPA) -The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has confirmed it will hand down judgment on provisional measures sought in South Africa’s genocide case against Israel on Friday, South African news website News24 reported on Wednesday, citing two sources close to the matter.

“A public sitting will take place at 13:00 (14:00 in South Africa) at the Peace Palace in The Hague, during which Judge Joan E. Donoghue, the President of the Court, will read the Court’s Order,” the ICJ said.

Israel Channel 13 also stated that there are “reports” indicating that the ICJ will announce its decision on South Africa’s lawsuit on Friday.

In the initial ruling, the ICJ will not address the main issue of whether “Israel” is committing genocide, but it will only consider taking possible urgent measures until the court reviews the case in full, a process that usually takes years.

In response to the news report, South Africa’s justice ministry spokesperson Chrispin Phiri posted on X: “We do not have an official communication from the court as to when the judgment will be delivered.”

The South African news site mentioned that a government delegation arrived in The Hague in anticipation of the judgment.

Earlier this month, South Africa requested the International Court of Justice to issue an order urgently halting the destructive Zionist-American aggression on Gaza, accusing “Israel” of committing genocide.
