WORLD, Jan. 17 (YPA) – The US Senate blocked a resolution that would have directed the US Department of State to monitor whether Israel’s use of American weapons aligns with humanitarian standards.
The Senate, with a majority of 72 votes against 11, prevented its international committee from continuing work on the document.
This action occurred despite the initiative’s sponsor, Senator Bernie Sanders, emphasizing that it would not impact the aid provided to Israel.
He stated that the resolution simply required the US Department of State to provide reports on how American assistance is used.
Bernie Sanders expressed hope that there would be nothing objectionable about questioning the use of American weapons.
