Trump calls for release of those jailed in Capitol attack

WORLD, Jan. 07 (YPA) – Former US President Donald Trump described hundreds of his supporters who were imprisoned for participating in the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 as “hostages” and called on Joe Biden to release them.

Trump said during a rally in Iowa: “Do you know what they should do? They should release the January sixth hostages.”

“Some call them prisoners, but I call them hostages. Free the January 6 hostages, Joe. Let them go, Joe. It’s easy for you to do that, Joe.”

On January 6, 2021, at least 950 Trump supporters were detained for trying to block congressional certification of Biden’s electoral victory.

The FBI continues to search for participants in the events of January 6, 2021, and courts sentence them harshly to up to ten years in prison.
