Lavrov: West is trying to orchestrate illegal seizure of power in Serbia

WORLD, Dec. 31 (YPA) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West is not ready to accept the elections’ results in Serbia and the volume of popular support for President Aleksandar Vucic, and is trying to orchestrate the illegal seizure of power.

Lavrov told Novosti: “What happened in Belgrade is another attempt to orchestrate the illegal seizure of power. “There seem to be forces in the West that cannot afford the fact that Serbian voters expressed their support for President Aleksandar Vucic and his political trajectory in the elections.”

Representatives of Serbia Against Violence coalition allege that the results of the country’s parliamentary and municipal elections held on 17 December were rigged.

On 18 December, the opposition began a series of marches near the building of the Republican Election Commission, and on 24 December demonstrators tried to storm the Belgrade city administration building. Police rioted and arrested 38 people.
