ABYAN Oct. 04 (YPA) – A senior leader in the “Security Belt” factions backed by the UAE was assassinated on Wednesday in Abyan province, southern Yemen.
Local sources said that nameless gunmen believed to belong to Al-Qaeda targeted a vehicle of the security belt sector’s commander, Salem Ali Sal’an in the coastal area of Shukra, with an explosive device while he was passing on the main road, which also led to injuring almost eight of his companions.
The sources added that the explosion came after an attempt to assassinate the leader of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional Council, Fadl Baash, who was appointed by the coalition-backed government as commander of the “Special Forces” in the center of the city of Zinjibar of Abyan, with a car bomb last week.
