Al-Houthi discusses with WFP repercussions of decision to reduce humanitarian aid

SANAA, Sept. 04 (YPA) – Member of the Supreme Political Council in Sanaa, Muhammad Ali Al-Houthi, discussed on Monday with the Regional Director of the World Food Program’s (WFP) in the Middle East and North Africa, Corinne Fleischer, the repercussions of the program’s decision to reduce humanitarian aid to Yemen.

Al-Houthi criticized the United Nations’ working mechanism for handling the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, stating it is ineffective in dealing with the world’s worst crisis.

He indicated that the decision to reduce aid to Yemen is political and at the American administration’s behest, at a time when Yemen continues to suffer from nine years of war and siege.

Al-Houthi argued that reducing aid amid the ongoing war and siege in Yemen aims to starve the Yemeni people, holding the Saudi-led coalition countries responsible for the humanitarian crises in the country.

In the meeting, Fleischer touched on the Food Program’s mechanism for disbursing aid and the difficulties it faces due to high prices and scarcity of resources.
