18 Yemeni fishermen return to Hodeida after months of kidnapping, torture in Eritrea’s jails
HODEIDA, Sept. 02 (YPA) – At least 18 Yemeni fishermen returned on Friday to Hodeida city, western Yemen, after months of kidnapping and torture in the prisons of the Eritrean authorities.
The Director General of Ports and Centers at the Fisheries Authority, Aziz Atini, explained that the fishermen released from Eritrean prisons were 92, of whom 18 arrived in Hodeida and the rest were in the Al-Khokha area.
Atini called on the international community and human rights organizations to play their humanitarian role to stop the crimes of kidnapping, torture, and other violations committed by the Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen.
The released fishermen stated that the Eritrean navy had kidnapped them while they were fishing in Yemeni territorial waters and took them to jails in Eritrean Fatima port, indicating that they were subjected to torture and hard labor under starvation.
