Israeli shelling, drone strikes hit southern Lebanese towns

BEIRUT, Aug. 06 (YPA) –  Israeli forces escalated strikes across southern Lebanon overnight and  Thursday morning, carrying out a series of airstrikes and artillery shelling in violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement, according to Lebanese state media.

Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) reported that the bombardment targeted multiple towns and villages, leaving several civilians injured and triggering a fresh wave of displacement toward the coastal city of Tyre.

According to the NNA, Israeli fighter jets struck the towns of Al-Mansouri and Bourj al-Shamali in the Tyre area in southern Lebanon.  Three Israeli drone strikes were also carried out in the Bourj al-Shamali area, and rescue forces evacuated several wounded from the scene. It was also reported that the occupation forces fired artillery shells toward the Ali al-Taher ridge area in the country’s south.

Search and rescue teams alongside units from the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) deployed to the strike site in Al-Bourj Al-Shamali to clear debris and ensure no additional casualties were trapped under rubble.

Artillery fire extended toward the outer edges of Hadatha, while Israeli ground forces directed heavy machine-gun fire toward the coastal Al-Hamra area in Bayyout Al-Siyad.

Since March 2, Israeli occupation forces have intensified their military offensive across Lebanon, striking towns, cities, and civilian infrastructure. The continuous escalation has left thousands dead and injured, while displacing an estimated 1.5 million people.
