Al-Hirak reveals details on humanitarian catastrophe against detainees in UAE-run prisons

ADEN, Aug 04 (YPA) -The Southern Revolutionary Movement Council (al-hirak al-janubi) has revealed details on the largest humanitarian catastrophe against detainees and forcibly disappeared inside UAE-run prisons in the city of Aden and the rest of the southern governorates.

The Department of Rights and Freedoms in the Council confirmed the brutal torture of detainees and forcibly hidden persons in secret prisons and detention centers run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions in Aden and the rest of the southern cities.

The department said, in a statement, that it “obtained information confirming that some detainees forcibly disappeared in the prisons of the STC have become crazy and paralyzed due to the brutal torture they subjected to on a daily basis.”

The statement called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva to discuss human rights in prisons supervised by the UAE in southern Yemen.

It further called for the release of detainees and forcibly disappeared, and reactivating the work and activities of OHCHR to investigate crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
