SHABWA, July. 05 (YPA) – The terrorist al-Qaeda organization in Yemen threatened on Wednesday to continue targeting the UAE-backed “joint forces” in the provinces of Shabwa and Abyan, south of Yemen.
This came in a video published by the al-Malahim Foundation, affiliated with the organization.
The video, titled “Seham al-Haq 2”, had showed documented scenes of the attacks were carried out by the organization during the past weeks against the UAE-affiliated armed elements in the two provinces, using explosive devices and mortar shells.
The video also showed scenes of targeting the recruits of the so-called First Brigade of Shabwa Defense” with Al-Qaeda-run drones in Al-Saeed district of Shabwa, in addition to scenes of night sniping operations targeting the recruits of the armed factions loyal to the Emirates.
The organization carried out hundreds of military attacks against the UAE-backed factions in Shabwa and Abyan, in response to the so-called Operation Arrows of the East that the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) launched inside Abyan in mid-August.
On May 20, 2023, Khaled Batarfi, a leader of the terrorist organization, vowed in a video recording to continue fighting Sanaa forces without the support of the coalition, threatening the UAE and its armed militias with retaliatory attacks in response to Operation Arrows of the East, which targeted terrorist elements in Abyan and Shabwa.
Activists of the STC accused Saudi Arabia of being behind the escalating attacks that carried out by al-Qaeda in the two provinces.
