Al-Qaeda launches attack on UAE-backed factions in Shabwa

SHABWA, June 11 (YPA) – Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has taken control over a strategic camp belonging to the UAE-backed Shabwa Defense Forces.

Local sources reported that gunmen belonging to al-Qaeda launched an attack on the Shabwa defense camp in the Al-Musaina’a area of Al-Sa’eed district, using RPGs and heavy machine guns.

The sources explained that al-Qaeda elements also used drones in their attack, and citizens heard violent explosions resulting from drone strikes.

The elements succeeded in controlling the camp, in addition to killing and wounding dozens of Shabwa Defense Forces

According to the sources, al-Qaeda elements destroyed three military pickup vehicles and a weapons depot, while the remaining members of the Shabwa Defence Forces fled.
