Saudi Arabia summons 19 military commanders affiliated with Al-Maisari

RIYADH, March 16 (YPA) – Saudi Arabia on Wednesday summoned 19 military commanders affiliated with former Interior Minister Ahmed al-Maisari, a candidate to head the government loyal to Saudi-led coalition  in a move that indicates Riyadh’s efforts to resolve the battle in the province.

Media sources quoted Abdulaziz al-Awthali, a member of the leadership of the Southern National Coalition led by Ahmed al-Eisei, as saying that the military and security commanders have already arrived in Riyadh and are holding consultations on what he described as an expected scenario in Abyan.

Al-Awthali hinted to Saudi efforts to push the people of Abyan to fight a new battle against the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC).

Saudi Arabia’s summons to the leaders of al-Maisari in Abyan came days after the latter’s arrival amid reports of arrangements to appoint him as prime minister to replace Maeen Abdul-Malik.

The STC fears that the return of Al-Maisari, the most influential figures in the south, to the scene will lead to the final withdrawal of its rug, especially since Al-Maisari, who was defeated in the August 2019 war at the hands of the STC, still maintains a great force that prevent the STC’s progress in the central regions of Abyan.
