Tribal sheikh escapes assassination attempt in Lahj
LAHJ, Dec. 29 (YPA) – A tribal sheikh survived on Thursday an assassination attempt in front of his house in Radfan district of Lahj province, southern Yemen.
Local sources said that unidentified gunmen targeted the car of the sheikh Abdul Qawi Ali Mohammed al-Radfani, who was served as advisor to the “former interior minister in Aden movement,” Ahmed Al-Maysari, with a hand grenade, after he left his house in Saraya area of the district.
The sources confirmed that the attack damaged the car, while the attackers fled to an unknown destination, amid accusations against members of the UAE-funded “Southern Transitional Council (STC) militia.
The sources considered that targeting Al-Radfani a dangerous precedent that threatens security and social peace in the remote areas of Radfan, accusing some parties, without naming them, of shuffling the cards and transferring the conflict to the Radfan.
The attempt to assassinate Radfani came after an uprising in the Radfan districts calling for the expulsion of the “STC” militia from Radfan, following its execution of the young man, Majid Rushdeh al-Halimi, in the middle of this month.
