SHABWA, Dec. 29 (YPA) – The UAE-backed militia imposed on Thursday its military control over the last strongholds of the Islah Party militants in the oil-rich province of Shabwa, eastern Yemen.
During the past hours, the UAE pushed the “Al-Amaliqa Brigades”, which it brought in from the western coast at the beginning of this year, to control “Arin” camp in “Armaa” area, east of the city of Ataq, the capital of the province, after tribal pressure for the Islah militants to leave the area and force them to withdraw to Marib province, according local sources.
The sources stated that the command of the UAE forces in Shabwa threatened earlier this week with targeting the Islah militants, after they refused to withdraw from the Arin camp.
The UAE funded a tribal sit-in of the Arama and Shabwa tribes during the past month in the vicinity of the Arin camp, and last Tuesday gave the Islah militants 48 hours, as a final deadline to leave the camp.
