TEHRAN, Dec. 13 (YPA) – The Iranian judiciary announced on Tuesday the opening of an investigation into the role of satellite channels that incited the recent riots,” in reference to the ongoing protests in the country since the death of the girl, “Mahsa Amini,” in police custody last September.
Assistant to Head of the Judiciary and Secretary of the Iranian Human Rights Commission, Kazem Ghareebabadi, said that the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Tehran “has launched an investigation into the role of anti-Iranian and Persian-language TV channels in the riots that took place in the country,” according to the Iranian “Mehr” agency.
He added that “the behavior of the anti-Iranian Persian-speaking media completely contradicts international laws,” holding the British government responsible in this regard, given that London is the broadcasting site for two of these channels, namely: “Iran International” and “BBC Persian.”
“The communications regulator (Ofcom) must deal with the violations of these two media outlets, but unfortunately we see the British government’s support for them,” Ghareebabadi said.
He explained that the role of these anti-Iranian media outlets is “no less than the role of terrorist groups or their members.
Iran announced, last October, that it would submit, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international institutions, a complaint against hostile media outlets that publish false and misleading news against it to the relevant international authorities.
