Germany allocates $ 10.5 billion to buy 35 US F-35 fighter jets

WORLD, Dec. 05 (YPA) – Germany will allocate €10 billion ($10.5 billion) to buy 35 F-35A Lightning II fighter jets, according to a government document seen by Bloomberg,

The document shows that the deliveries are planned for 2026 to 2029, and the funds for this deal will be allocated from a special fund to strengthen the German armed forces in the amount of 100 billion euros.

According to the agency, Berlin will also receive “air-to-ground missiles and ground infrastructure.”

Speaking at the Berlin Security Conference on Nov. 30, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said fighter jets were necessary for the country to continue to “contribute to nuclear participation” in NATO.

Although Germany does not have nuclear bombs, German aircraft can carry US nuclear warheads in the event of war. So far, this mission has been assigned to the Tornado reconnaissance aircraft, whose service life is expected to end in 2025, while information emerged in 2019, according to which Berlin intends to replace this type of aircraft with F-35 fighters.
