BAGHDAD, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said that his country would continue its mediation efforts to bring Saudi Arabia and Iran closer together, noting that five meetings between the two sides were held in Baghdad.
In details, the head of Iraqi diplomacy in an interview with “Rudaw” noted that the mediation process between the two countries is continuing, adding: “So far they have held five meetings in Baghdad, but they were at the intelligence and security levels.
“The disagreement is about this, and because I met the Iranian and Saudi sides, we are working to change the level to the level of foreign ministers, but this discussion is ongoing now and let’s wait to see what happens next,” he explained.
Asked when such a meeting would be held at the level of foreign ministers, Hussein said: “I have already said that we are continuing talks. So far, the two sides have held five formal meetings, but firstly they have been at the intelligence level, and secondly, the contents of the meetings are not officially made public.
“Let’s see what will happen, and we’re on the line with both sides.”
