Portugal opposes EU entry ban on Russian citizens

WORLD, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Portugal said it that it opposes a ban against Russian citizens who wants to enter to the European countries, the country foreign ministry announced .

Speaking to the ECO newspaper, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said Portugal believes that the main purpose of the sanctions regime should be to punish the Russian military machine, not the Russian people.

Portugal will contribute to the development of a common position between the EU by participating in the discussion of this issue at the European level,” he added.

Recently, there have been calls in some European countries to ban all Russians from entering Schengen countries, as part of the policy of sanctions against Moscow over its military operation in Ukraine.
