Human Rights Ministry condemns crime of raping girls in Hodeida

SANA’A, Jun. 19 (YPA) – The Ministry of Human Rights on Sunday condemned in the strongest terms the brutal crime committed by the Saudi-led coalition mercenaries with raping six girls, including two sisters, from Al-Juwair and Al-Suwaihra areas of Hays district in Hodeida province.

The ministry explained, in a statement, that this crime, which is added to a series of similar crimes committed by the coalition and its mercenaries, is alien to Yemeni society and contradicts the true Islamic religion, customs, traditions, and all customs.

The statement pointed out that this crime represents a flagrant violation of international laws, human rights law and international humanitarian law, and is classified among the war crimes stipulated in the statute of the International Criminal Court.

It explained that the crime violates the Charter of the United Nations and Security Council Resolution (1325) calling for ensuring the safety of women and spreading security and peace in their public environment, as well as the four Geneva Conventions that provide for the protection of women against any attack on their honor.

The Ministry held the UN Security Council, human rights and the international community legally, morally and criminally responsible for this crime and its predecessors.

In its statement, the Ministry called for the formation of an independent and impartial international investigation committee into this crime and the previous crimes against women and children in Hodeida.
