KHARTOUM, Aug. 02 (YPA) – A Sudanese army force arrested on Monday a gang specialized in smuggling and trading arms and ammunition coming from Ethiopia on their way to the capital, Khartoum.
The “Sudan Tribune” website reported that the eastern military region’s intelligence division managed to arrest the gang at the border strip on the eastern bank of Atbara River.
The force confronted the gang that tried to breach the border and arrested Sudanese and foreign suspects with 500 Turkish 9mm pistols and 800 Kalashnikov assault rifles in their possession.
These weapons and ammunition mostly go to the hands of the Shifta gangs and Ethiopian militias to be used to block roads in front of the movement of farmers, shepherds and citizens, according to the website.
