SANAA, May 19 (YPA) – Lebanon’s Presidency said on Wednesday that Caretaker Lebanese Foreign Minister Charbel Wehbe submitted his resignation letter to President Michel Aoun.
The resignation came following the backlash over his comments about Gulf Arab states.
Wahbe’s statements in TV interview on Monday sparked tensions between Lebanon and Gulf states, during which he indicated that Saudi Arabia supported growing “ISIS” Organization.
Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain have summoned Lebanon’s ambassadors and issued official complaints, in protest against the minister Wahbe’s statements.
“The countries of love, friendship and brotherhood brought us the Islamic State and planted it in the plains of Nineveh, Anbar and Palmyra,” Wahbe said in an interview with Al-Hurra television network, referring to areas in Syria and Iraq that were seized by ISIS in 2014.
