Egyptian FM comments on stalled negotiations on Renaissance Dam

SANAA, April 7 (YPA) – The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, commented on Tuesday evening that the private negotiations on the Renaissance Dam have stalled.

“Cairo will act if any water damage is caused to it by the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam .. Egypt is always working to solve the dam crisis politically, and it will take all measures to protect Egyptian national security in the appropriate time,” Shoukry said in statements to the Egyptian TV.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister described any talk about the second filling of the Renaissance Dam unilaterally or the operation of the dam as an “irresponsible act.” Stressing that “filling the Renaissance Dam unilaterally predicts dangerous developments that threaten the region, peace and international security, and Egypt and Sudan will not allow any harm to happen to them.”

He noted that Egypt is coordinating with Sudan to deal with the Renaissance Dam crisis, noting that Egypt is moving through international partners and international organizations.

Shoukry indicated that there are no other negotiations regarding the Ethiopian dam, and there are no calls for further negotiations.

In a related context, Egyptian media reported that the Egyptian Foreign Minister arrived in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, on an urgent visit to hold a coordination meeting with Sudanese officials.
