Trump describes leader of Republicans in Senate as mercenary

SANAA, Feb. 17 (YPA) – Former US President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening slammed Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, indicating a growing rift between the two most important voices in the Republican Party.

Trump said in a statement, amid the implications of the second impeachment trial of the former president, “Mitch is a mercenary politician, ruthless and always sullen, and he does not smile, and if the Republican senators stick to him, they will not win again.”
The former US president added, “The Republican Party can never be respected, as long as leaders like Mitch McConnell are at its head.”
The gap between Trump and McConnell widened when McConnell announced to the Senate, last Saturday, during the second impeachment of the former US president, that “Trump (practically and morally) is responsible for storming the Capitol on January 6, despite his vote against the conviction of the former president.”
