13 killed as Typhoon hits Vietnam

SANAA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – At least 13 were killed and over 40 still missing due to landslides set off by Typhoon Molave, Vietnam’s government said.

The government has deployed hundreds of troops and heavy equipment  on Thursday to search for survivors .

Rescuers were digging for survivors and crews were trying to open a road to bring more equipment into a village cut off by damage.

Officials indicated that  Molave was the worst typhoon to hit the country in 20 years.

Since early October, storms, heavy rains and floods in Vietnam have affected more than 1 million people.

The government said Cyclone Molave caused power outages to millions of people and damaged some 56,000 homes.

Twenty-six fishermen are still missing after their boats sank while trying to return to shore on Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The intensity of the hurricane receded after reaching land on Wednesday and is expected to reach Laos on Thursday.
