SANAA, Oct. 12 (YPA) – Iran expressed on Monday its concern over the violation of the ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia, calling on both sides to adhere to the ceasefire and resume talks within the framework of international law, respect for both countries, the territorial integrity of the other and the evacuation of occupied cities.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said: Iran expresses its regret for the violation of the ceasefire declared between the republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia after the recent clashes between them.
Khatibzadeh renewed Iran’s call to abide by the ceasefire and resume talks within the framework of international law, respect for both countries, the territorial integrity of the other, and the evacuation of occupied cities.
He declared his country’s readiness to facilitate these talks in order to reach a lasting solution and establish security and peace in the region, calling on all parties to show more restraint, and strongly condemned the missile attacks on infrastructure and residential areas and killing civilians.
The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zurab Montaskyanian and Gihon Bayramov agreed in Moscow last Friday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on a joint document and a ceasefire in the Nagorno Karabakh region after 10 hours of negotiations, and the agreement became effective at 12:00 noon on Saturday 10 October.
It was also agreed that Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, through joint mediation of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, would continue basic negotiations with the aim of reaching a peace agreement as soon as possible.
