Iranian Foreign Ministry summons Emirati Chargé d’Affairs

TEHRAN, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday summoned, for the second time and within less than 48 hours, the Emirati Chargé d’Affairs to Tehran to present its protest over the Emirati attack on Iranian fishermen’s boats.

This comes two days after the UAE Coast Guard shooting at five Iranian boats and arresting one of them in the Gulf waters, which resulted in the killing of two fishermen.

On the day after the accident, which occurred on Monday afternoon, the Emirati Chargé d’Affairs was summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

Director General of International Legal Affairs at the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the UAE Coast Guard’s interception of the Iranian fishing boats, holding the UAE government responsible for this illegal behavior that violates the current approach between the coast guards of the two countries.

The Iranian official stressed the necessity of releasing the detainees and the fishing boat and handing over the bodies of the fishermen, demanding compensation for the damages.
