SANAA, Aug. 9 (YPA) – Iran’s ambassador to international organizations, Kazem Gharibabadi, has called for a transparent investigation by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) into Saudi Arabia’s secret nuclear program.
Kazem Gharibabadi called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to clarify Saudi Arabia’s secret nuclear program and report to IAEA members.
He noted that Saudi Arabia is developing and implementing a highly opaque nuclear program, although it is a member of the NPT and has a comprehensive bilateral safeguards agreement in force with the IAEA, but unfortunately for years has been refusing IAEA inspections, despite repeated requests, it has not fulfilled its obligations to allow inspections.
“Our countries and the IAEA must make it clear to Saudi Arabia that the international community will not accept any deviation from and will confront a peaceful nuclear program,” he said.
“If Saudi Arabia is seeking the peaceful use of nuclear energy, it must accept the IAEA -related obligations and act with full transparency,” Gharibabadi added.
