Clashes continue between Islah militants, STC in Shabwah

SHABWAH, June 15 (YPA) – Fierce clashes broke out between forces loyal to Hadi’s government and the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Nassab district of Shabwah province, southern Yemen, local sources reported on Sunday.

Local sources said the STC militants launched heavy artillery shelling on the government compound where the special security forces are holed up.

The sources added that the reinforcements of Hadi’s forces sent from Ataq shelled positions of the transitional militias in the mountains.

Other reports confirmed that five family members were wounded on Sunday as a result of artillery shelling launched by al-Islah militants targeting Nassab district in the same province.

In retaliation, tribal gunmen loyal to the UAE-funded “Southern Transitional Council”, destroyed a military armoured vehicle near the al-Koura school near the district.

The sources added that dozens of gunmen from the Tribe of Nassab are flocking to the Qarn Hwfrah area, in conjunction with arrival of military reinforcements on the front lines of confrontations with al-Islah militants.

The clashes are likely to be furious after the arrival of heavy weapons for the STC militants.
