Turkey announces launch of new military operation in northern Iraq
SANAA, June 15 (YPA) – Turkish Ministry of Defense announced on Sunday evening the launch of a military operation against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.
“Our planes are destroying terrorists’ burrows over their heads,” the Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement on its Twitter account.
The ministry announced on Monday morning that the air force bombed 81 targets of the “Kurdistan Workers Party” in northern Iraq, on Sunday night.
The ministry said on “Twitter”, that the air force destroyed 81 targets of the PKK, with the start of the “Eagle Claw” operation launched by the Turkish army, on Sunday evening.
Turkish forces in recent years have carried out intensive operations against Kurdish militants in both Iraq and Syria, saying that “this is in response to attacks by or planned by elements of the PKK, which it has been fighting for more than three decades inside and outside the country.”
It is noteworthy that in the ongoing conflict between the Turkish forces and the PKK, more than 40,000 people, most of them civilians, were killed.
