Yemeni astronomer expects annular eclipse of sun on June 21

SANAA, June 10 (YPA) – The Yemeni astronomer Adnan Al-Shawafi expected that the earth will witness an annular eclipse of the sun on Sunday, June 21, 2020.

Al-Shawafi explained in a statement on Wednesday that the path of the annular eclipse will start from the middle of the continent of Africa towards the Arabian Peninsula, passing through Yemen and the far southeast of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, then through the center of Asia to the far east of Asia, ending in the Pacific Ocean.

He pointed out that the areas that will be covered by the partial eclipse around the path of the annular eclipse are wide enough to cover most of Africa, parts of Europe, most of Asia and large parts of the Indian and Pacific oceans.

According to al-Shawafi, the partial eclipse in the Republic of Yemen will start from the western coasts about 6:53 am (Sanaa local time) to gradually cover Yemen. At 7:04 am, the eclipse will start at the eastern border of Yemen. The partial eclipse ends on the western coasts of Yemen at 9:28 am and the eclipse ends in the whole Yemeni territory at 9:56 am.

Al-Shawafi warned citizens not to look at the sun with the naked eye during the eclipse, as it may cause extensive damage to the eye.
