Al- Houthi welcomes UN Secretary-General’s call for ceasefire around world

SANAA, March 24 (YPA) – On Monday night, member of the Supreme Political Council, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi urged UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths to address the new Corona virus epidemic (Covid-19), pay salaries for employees and other issues.

“In an interview with international envoy Martin, we discussed with him a variety of topics, including the US-made corona virus, salaries and others, he said in a tweet. The tweet included pictures of the meeting between them.

Mohammed al-Houthi addressed the UN Secretary-General: “The Corona epidemic is sweeping the world and threatening humanity, calling on the Security Council and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to stop the aggression against the Yemeni people and to lift the blockade, as the epidemic is spreading all over the world.”

“The people of the world must be at peace and be able to fight the dangerous epidemic,” he tweeted Monday afternoon.

A swift response from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, came hours later, launching a global call for a worldwide ceasefire.

He added: We welcome the call of the UN Secretary-General, and we in favor of the cessation of the aggression, accompanied by the lifting of the blockade, the lifting of the ban on air and sea ports, and the delivery of salaries so that staff can take full measures against the virus.

But in a tweet, Mohammed al-Houthi said: “We remind the Secretary-General that this is what has been pledged (in a video press conference of the UN Secretary-General in which he called on all warring parties to cease fire around the world).

“World Health Organizations, the Red Cross, UNICEF and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) have to bear their responsibilities to equip hospitals to cope with any corona epidemic, and providing 1,000 ventilators urgently and at a minimum,” said Dr. Taha al-Mutawakkil, minister of health in the national salvation government.
