SANAA, March 15 (YPA) – The “Prisoners of Conscience” account launched a campaign demanding release of detainees in Saudi prisons, due to high risk of the coronavirus spreading.
The claim comes “against the real risk to their lives in poor prison conditions,” the account said.
Dozens of activists and relatives of detainees participated in the campaign, including Lina Al-Hathloul, sister of detained activist Loujain al-Hathloul
Al-Hathloul said she demands the release of the detainees, primarily her sister, due to the high danger posed by the spread of Corona.
Activists have warned that there is a large group of older people in prisons who are more vulnerable to the (Covid-19).
103 coronavirus cases have been reported in Saudi Arabia so far. As a precaution, the Saudi authorities suspended all visits in prisons.
Saudi Arabia arrests thousands of citizens and residents on political opinions, human rights claims, and a group that have been arrested despite being completely absent from public affairs.
