Sanaa calls for international tribunal to prosecute war criminals in Yemen

SANAA , Feb. 19 (YPA) – The Ministry of Human Rights, with the participation of the Yemeni petroleum company, organized a vigil in front of the UN office in Sanaa on Wednesday to denounce the repeated violations and crimes against the Yemeni people.

During the vigil, Human Rights Minister Radhia Mohammed called on the United Nations to play its humanitarian role in Yemen and to stop the ongoing violations and crimes against the Yemeni people.

She stressed that the United Nations is a partner of the coalition, and contributes to the bombing and starvation of the Yemeni people because of its silence and failure to play the humanitarian role for which it was created.

The United Nations, the UN Security Council and international human rights organizations held responsible for the serious violations that the Yemeni people have been subjected to by coalition countries for the past five years, he added.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by protesters called on the Security Council to hold an emergency session to discuss the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The statement also called for the establishing an independent and impartial commission to investigate the massacres and the disastrous effects committed by the coalition in Yemen over a period of five years, as well as the establishment of a special tribunal to try criminals.

Yemeni Petroleum company’s spokesman Amin al-Shabati said the aggression coalition is still holding nine oil ships loaded with more than 240,000 tons of fuel despite receiving UN permits.

He called on the United Nations to carry out its responsibilities and put pressure on the  coalition states to release of all ships being held at sea.
