Coalition insists on preventing UN maintenance team access to Safer reservoir

SANAA, Nov. 7 (YPA) – Saudi-led coalition’s team, in the Joint Committee on Monitoring Hodeidah ceasefire, has informed the UN observe mission of its refusal to allow a UN technical team to inspect Safer floating reservoir off Ras Issa port, on the west coast of Yemen.

The coalition countries are trying to use all lawless methods of extortion to pressure Sana’a to make concessions.

“The coalition invoked the allegations of “non-implementation of Sweden agreement by the army and the popular committees, and taken those allegations as a justification for not allowing the access of UN technicians to Safer oil tank,” sources in Hodeidah told Yemen Press Agency.

Sana government had launched several distress calls since the beginning of the war, in order to preserve “Safer” tank and avoid the potential disaster of the explosion of the dilapidated reservoir , but the United Nations did not respond to those calls until last August.

Some observers believe that the United Nations and the coalition countries have jointly worked to leave the problem of the tanker “Safer” to worsen, without maintenance.

It is worth mentioning that the reservoir “Safer” contains more than 147 million barrels of crude oil, and has not undergone any maintenance for nearly five years.

An environmental study has warned that the oil reserve in “Safer” would kill life along the Red Sea, in the event of the explosion of the tank.
