PM meets with UNFPA Chief of Humanitarian Section

SANAA, Oct. 23 (YPA) – Prime Minister Dr. Abdulaziz bin Habtoor on Wednesday met with Head of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)’s Humanitarian Section in Geneva Shoko Arakaki and her accompanying delegation currently visiting Yemen to assess the humanitarian situation.

The meeting discussed the humanitarian support provided by the UNFPA to a number of sectors related to the population issues, including the displaced people, in light of the ongoing aggression on the country.

The meeting also touched on the Fund’s future projects and programs and its priorities in the targeted sectors, especially the health and population sector, as well as the aspects related to enhancing the Fund’s humanitarian role in supporting the Yemeni people in their current ordeal.

During the meeting, Dr. bin Habtoor reviewed aspects of the humanitarian tragedy caused by Saudi-led aggression coalition and the impact of its arbitrary actions in the framework of its economic war on the Yemeni people by preventing the entry of medicine, food and oil derivatives.

The prime minister indicated that children, women and elderly in their homes have not been spared from the direct targeting of the coalition aircraft or through the suffocating siege, which claimed lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians due to lack of medicine and the continued closure of Sanaa International Airport.

He affirmed that the Yemeni people remain hopeful that the efforts of UN envoy Martin Griffiths to stop the aggression and lift the siege would succeed.

Arakaki confirmed the Fund’s keenness to expand its humanitarian activity in Yemen over the coming period and to continue developing constructive cooperation relations with various concerned parties.
