Pompeo: The U.S. will not allow Saudi Arabia to be a nuclear power

SANAA, April 6 (YPA) – The U.S. Secretary of State,  Mike Pompeo has said that his country will not allow Saudi Arabia to become a nuclear power to threaten the USA  and the security of the Israeli entity.

The move came during an interview with the US channel “CBS ” on Friday evening.

The US Secretary of State stressed that his country would not allow Saudi Arabia to become a nuclear power, threatening the United States of America and “Israel” together, the Israeli TV channel reported Friday night.

“We will not write a $ 150 billion check to Saudi Arabia and give them the ability to threaten the United States and Israel,” Pompeo added.

, Bloomberg news website published on Wednesday a report based on satellite imagery, saying that Saudi Arabia is close to completing construction or nuclear reactor in the west of King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh.

The former Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Robert Kelley told the same site that there is a very high probability that these images show the first nuclear facility in Saudi Arabia.

While the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced in a statement that the purpose of the facility is to participate in scientific, research, educational and peaceful activities, noting that the construction of the reactor is conducted transparently.

The kingdom has signed all the international conventions on nuclear non-proliferation, stressing that the facility is open to visitors.
