SANAA, April 4 (YPA) -The Deputy Director General of the National Tuberculosis Control Program at the Ministry of Public Health and Population, Dr. Adel al-Madani, has confirmed that more than 13,000 new cases of tuberculosis are being diagnosed annually in Yemen.
Dr. Al Madani explained that the infection rate has reached 48 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the death rate is 4.4 due per 100,000 people due to tuberculosis.
However, the Deputy Director did note that the annual incidence of infection has fallen from 80 cases per 100,000 people in 2005 to 48 in 2018, and the mortality rate has fallen from 16 deaths per 100,000 people to its present number, according to an interview by “September 26” newspaper.
Al- Madani noted that 9,500 cases are discovered annually, the success rate of the treatment has reached 90%, of which 3075 cases of infectious pulmonary tuberculosis which is for the type of tuberculosis cases spread by coughing or sneezing.
The fact that Yemen succeeds in actively pushing back the spread of tuberculosis despite the Saudi-led war and imposed siege on the country, is a credit to the steadfastness and dedication of the country.
