SANAA, April 3 (YPA) – Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has resigned on Tuesday evening from the country’s presidential post and notified the Shura Council.
The Algerian army chief of Staff, Deputy Minister of Defense, has ordered immediate measures to relieve President Abdelaziz Bouteflika of his position in accordance with the Constitution.
“The Algerian army is ordering that measures should be taken to exempt Bouteflika from office, as stipulated in articles 7, 8 and 102 of the Constitution,” Saleh said during a meeting of military figures at the Algerian army headquarters.
The chief of staff of the Algerian army described some of the meetings as “suspicious”, noting that they are held in secret and aim to conspire against the “demands of the people.”
Bouteflika has been in power for more than 20 years.
