Magnitude 5.5 quake hits southern Philippines

SANAA, March 6 (YPA) – An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook the southern Philippines on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Seismology and Volcanology announced.

According to Xinhua, the institute said the underwater quake at 8:12 am local time was 14 km deep and about 102 km northeast of Sorigao del Sur province in Mindanao.

People felt the quake in the cities of Besling in the province and Davao in Davao del Sur province.

It is not expected that the earthquake will cause any damage, but there are expectations of aftershocks, the institute said.
