The U.S. authorities have evacuated thousands of people as a result of the flooding of a river in Northern California due to heavy rains, warning that anyone lagging behind may be stuck there.

Authorities in Sonoma County, some 110 kilometers north of San Francisco, issued evacuation orders Tuesday, due to the danger of flooding the Russian River.

Evacuation orders included more than 20 residential complexes spanning tens of miles along the river, including Gerneville, home to more than 4,500 people.
