New talks on prisoners file to be held Tuesday: National Committee for Prisoners Affairs

SANAA, Jan. 31 (YPA) – Chief of the National Committee for Prisoners Affairs Abdul-Qader al-Mortada said on Thursday that the new round of consultations on the prisoners file would be held on Tuesday, February 5, in Amman or in Geneva.

“We hope the other side will be ready to reveal the fate of more than 6,000 prisoners and detainees,” al-Mortada said.

He added that if the other party attended without powers, “we will not be able to reach any results other than rescheduling and taking commemorative photographs.”

Earlier in this month, a meeting was held in Jordan’s capital Amman under the auspices of the United Nations to discuss problems and obstacles that have hitherto prevented implementation of the Yemeni prisoner exchange agreement.

The two negotiating parties submitted lists include 15,000 prisoners and detainees from both sides in a prisoner exchange deal during the UN-brokered consultations held in Sweden in December last year.
