Senior official at Aden central bank receives threats from UAE

ADEN, Oct. 23 (YPA) – A senior official at the Aden-based Yemeni central bank was threatened to be killed by a foreign intelligence agency, a Bank source told Yemen Press Agency correspondent on Tuesday.

“Director General of the current accounts and budget, Ali al-Shabie was threatened to be killed after he has suspended a female employee over illegally coping accounts of Saudi-backed exiled Hadi’s ministries, particularly the defense and interior ministries,” said the source on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to media.

Bank’s security investigation into the case revealed that the “threats came from agents well-known to be working for the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) national security agency”, said the source, adding that “the agents have demanded an immediate end to the case of the female employee and to allow her to return to the bank.”

Both cases have been referred to the Aden police, said the source.
