Detainees of UAE prison in Aden resume open hunger strike

ADEN, Sept. 26 (YPA) – A number of detainees and those who were forcibly disappeared in Bir Ahmed prison run by the UAE occupation forces in Aden city, southern Yemen, resumed on Wednesday their open hunger strike.

The move came after the judicial and juridical committee, which visited the detainees over the past few days, failed to keep its promise to release them in exchange for halting the strike they started early this month.

A total 88 detainees announced the hunger strike to pressure the prison administration to release 26 detainees after Aden prosecutor issued their release orders because no charges were proved against them, according to Yemen Press Agency reporter.

There are 62 detainees being investigated and they demand their referral to the trial, rather than continued arbitrary detention for more than two years, the reporter added.
