Germany approves arms sale to Saudi Arabia

SANAA, Sept. 20 (YPA) – The German Government approved to send a shipment of arms to Saudi Arabia after it said it would stop sales of weapons to countries participating in the coalition on Yemen, a government document showed on Wednesday.

Economy Minister Peter Altmaier wrote a letter to lawmakers saying that the government had signed a shipment of four artillery positioning systems for armored vehicles, adding that the mounted radars can locate the origin of the enemy fire and enable precise counterstrike.

The shipment of arms is the first shipment to Riyadh since March when Chancellor Angela Merkel’s coalition agreed to delay deal not to sell weapons to any countries linked to the war on Yemen.

Germany is one of the top five arms exporters in the world, but arms sales are a sensitive issue due to the history of the country in World War II, according to the Cipri Research Group.

In order to obtain money, the Western countries keep ignoring the Saudi-led coalition crimes against the Yemeni people since March 2015.
