35 people killed, hundreds injured in fuel truck explosion in Nigeria

SANAA, Sept. 11 (YPA) – At least 35 people were killed on Monday and hundreds were injured when a fuel tanker exploded in the northern Nigerian state of Nasarawa, the Emergency Management Agency reported.

The incident occurred on Monday at a petrol station on a road linking the capital Abuja to the north and south of Nigeria, the acting director of the State Emergency Management Agency Usman Ahmed said.

He quoted a witness as saying that the truck exploded while it was unloading the fuel.

The agency was investigating the incident, he added.

“We have confirmed that 35 killed and more than 100 injured,” he told Reuters, adding that Most of those who died rushed to the scene of the accident to see what was happening.
