SANAA, Feb. 17 (YPA) – The Yemeni army on Saturday managed to arrest a military commander of Al-Qaeda, so-called Abu Hajer Al-Masri, holding Egyptian nationality, in the province of Taiz, a familiar source told Yemen Press Agency.
The army carried out an operation in the areas of al-Qadaf and al-Zarari, which resulted in killing and wounding dozens of Al-Qaeda elements, including Egyptian and Somali nationals, and the rest surrendered themselves to the army.
Al-Masri was involved in early February in the crime of killing Sheikh Idriss al-Sharabi, one of tribal sheikhs in Taiz.
The Yemeni Press Agency had obtained video footage showing one of the citizens was subjected to investigation and humiliation and threatened to be liquidated by al-Masri.
The scene also showed the body of Shaikh Sharabi on a car and stains of blood on his clothes, after Al-Masri committed his crime.
Hundreds of Arab nationals are fighting among the ranks of the US-backed Saudi-led coalitio.
The coalition had sent a terrorist cell led by Al-Masri to Yemen nearly two years ago from Syria to fight among the ranks of its mercenaries in Yemen.
