THE HAGUE, Oct. 28 (YPA) – The Colombian government announced on Tuesday that it would withdraw from The Hague Group as both a member state and co-chair, citing the group’s measures against Israel.
The Hague Group affirmed that it seeks to uphold international law and international legal processes, including proceedings at the International Criminal Court concerning the actions of the Israeli occupation.
In a video posted on X, government spokesperson Miller Soto said: “Colombia has formally requested to withdraw from The Hague Group, a group established to isolate and attack Israel, and we reject this approach.”
On October 14, Colombia inaugurated its embassy in Al-Quds, joining a small number of countries that have established diplomatic representation to Israeli occupation in the city, whose status as the occupation’s capital is not recognized by the international community.
The decision to relocate the embassy to al-Quds was initiated by conservative Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella, an ally of US President Donald Trump, who moved the US Embassy to Jerusalem in 2018 during his first presidential term.
