Power struggle sparks administrative crisis in Yemen’s Shabwa

SHABWA, Sept. 27 (YPA) – Local authorities in Mayfa’a District, located in Saudi-controlled Shabwa Governorate, expelled a central committee formed to oversee the handover process for the newly appointed head of the branch of the General Land Authority in the district.

A local source confirmed that Mayfa’a District Director, Mohammed Al-Khars, refused to receive the committee arriving from Ataq, which was tasked with handing over duties to the new director, Ali Bin Nashwah, rejecting decisions he stated exceed his authority.

The source noted that land management represents one of the most complex issues in the governorate due to widespread looting and encroachments on state-owned real estate and private properties by influential figures.

It was further clarified that the local authority in Mayfa’a had previously submitted a list of nominations to manage this vital sector within the district, seeking to operate independently from influential parties in Ataq.
