South Korea conducts live-fire drills near North Korean border

SEOUL, Sept. 22 (YPA) – The South Korean military conducted live-fire drills on the islands of Bangyeong and Yeonpyeong in the Yellow Sea off North Korea, near what Seoul considers the de facto maritime border.

 

Yonhap News Agency reported that marines fired about 200 rounds at simulated targets using K-9 recoilless rifles and Cheongmoo multiple rocket launchers. This was the third such exercise this year, following those in February and July.

 

Seoul and Pyongyang signed an agreement in 2018 to ban such drills near the border line, but South Korea resumed them in 2024.
