US approves $2.8B arms deal for Israeli occupation, including 40,000 heavy bombs

WASHINGTON, Sept. 16 (YPA) – The Trump administration has approved a $2.8 billion arms sale to the Israeli occupation military, featuring 40,000 one-ton bombs, amid international and human rights warnings regarding their potential deployment in densely populated areas of Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

According to “The New York Times” newspaper, the package comprises 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs, alongside 20,000 I-2000 bunker-buster and reinforced-concrete penetration warheads. These munitions carry a lethal radius exceeding 1,000 feet and leave blast craters up to 50 feet deep.

This development follows an earlier approval by the Trump administration in February for a $2.7 billion munitions sale to Israeli occupation entity, which included 35,000 bombs of similar specifications.

While Israeli occupation justifies the use of heavy ordnance by citing the presence of Hezbollah fighters and tunnels in civilian areas in Lebanon, former US officials and military analysts question whether “Israel” thoroughly pursues less destructive alternatives before deploying weaponry with catastrophic effects on civilians and infrastructure.
